MELBOURNE | After opening three successful restaurants across Melbourne and Sydney since 2014, it comes as no surprise that Belle’s Hot Chicken have now opened their fourth venue in the up-and-coming Windsor end of Chapel Street. Owned by Morgan McGlone, Reno Pontonio and Miranda Campbell, the newest addition to the Belle’s Hot Chicken family pumps out the same addictive Nashville style hot fried chicken in a familiar yet updated venue.

Taking over the space previously occupied by Spudbar, some of the furnishings have been replaced by an urban fit out, creating a modern-looking bar venue that encapsulates the cool vibes of Windsor. With wall tiles and light fittings imitated from their venues in Fitzroy and Richmond, recycled timber roofing and booths, this new venue feels like a tribute to Belle’s other locations mixed with a stamp of originality.

A differentiating factor for the Windsor venue is that their wine list is all Australian, with each wine bottle labeled or handwritten with something unique, such as “CHICKEN” or “WINDSOR”, just to name a couple. As with the other locations, the focus is on natural wines but there’s a lot more on offer here than at the other spots. The best type of alcohol to drink with fried chicken, as explained by Food & Beverage Director Christian, is natural, preservative-free wine, as it doesn’t overpower the flavours of the fried chicken. And in keeping with the Belle’s reputation, the flavours of the spicy fried chicken (and sides) at their Windsor venue is just as breathtaking (metaphorically and literally), making you down your water or drink before hastily grabbing another piece of fried chicken.

Playing hip hop tunes through their speakers and displaying a variety of old records behind the bar, Belle’s Hot Chicken maintains its reputation as one of the coolest fried chicken joints you will visit.
