MELBOURNE | For a long time, the late night dining options in Melbourne were rather sparse and, for the most part, not that inspiring. Don’t get us wrong, there’s always a time and place for a sneaky Big Mac or a kebab, but these days we more often than not find us wanting something better. Thankfully, in recent years, things have changed for the better and now there’s no shortage of places to recommend when someone asks what the best Melbourne late night eats are.

The quality and variety of food available past midnight has increased and as a result we’re now spoiled for choice. Whether it’s the old hospitality worker’s post late night shift favourite Ling Nan for Cantonese food, newcomer Twenty Pho Seven for authentic Ho Chi Minh style pho or Musashi for a bowl of comforting tonkotsu ramen, lovers of good Asian food are well catered to.

For those looking for something else, Guy Grossi’s Arlechin serves up things that are much more than your typical bar snacks (midnight pasta anyone?), while Butchers Diner offers patrons a selection of delights from all over, including some of the best meat skewers in town. Greek institution Stalactites meanwhile, continues to serve up the same tasty souvlakis it’s been doing since 1978.

Most of Melbourne’s late night eats are focused around the CBD, but there are also great options in the suburbs too. Le Bon Ton for American comfort food and BBQ, Romantica for pizza and Leonard’s House of Love for fried chicken just to name a few. Late night eating in Melbourne has never been better.

What’s your favourite food to eat in the early hours of the morning? Do you have a favourite late night gem we should know about? If so head over to our Facebook page and let us know.

Make sure you check out our Melbourne City Guide for a whole heap of up-to-date recommendations on where to eat, drink, and more in Melbourne.
