MELBOURNE | Big Pig Little Pig is an American BBQ and craft beer joint unassumingly hidden in an industrial part of Moorabbin, that’s giving locals a taste of the low and slow meat goodness that’s become so popular in Melbourne. Why the unexpected location? Well owners Christy Crawford and Eamonn James, and Australian-born but US-raised pitmaster Lincoln Davies wanted a warehouse space with reasonable rent and lots of space that was far enough away from residents that they wouldn’t get complaints. This former office-supply warehouse fit the bill.
There are two main spaces here – the front room is full of tables and booths, with a big lit ‘Beer’ sign drawing people’s attention towards the tile, wood and concrete bar. TVs dotted around the place show live sport, and there’s lot of room to move in a venue that’s very family friendly. Behind this is a large space that’s used for functions, and further back is all the smoking equipment.
All of the American BBQ favourites are here – beef brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs and sausages, along with things like smoked chicken, chicken wings, and lamb. For sides think mac & cheese, Buffalo wings, coleslaw and onion rings.
Drinks wise it’s Australian craft beers from the likes of Bright Brewery, Bad Shepherd, and 3 Ravens, and more. For those who don’t like beer, there’s a very decent spirits and cocktail list, along with several wines.
