MELBOURNE | Brewcult Bar is a bar brought to you by Brewcult Brewing’s Steve “Hendo” Henderson and business partner Troy Taylor. They originally planned to open a brewpub, but for various reasons, this Brunswick bar is what eventuated, with the brewing still occurring gypsy style at the shared Kaiju! and Exit brewery in Dandenong South.

Brewcult has built up quite the reputation over the past few years for making quality beers, but there was never a bar that you could go to if you wanted to try the core range on tap. Naturally, Brewcult’s entire core range will be available on tap along with three guest beer taps, a rotating cider tap, and an interesting refrigerated bottle selection. If you haven’t tried a Brewcult beer before, we recommend starting with the “Thanks Captain Obvious”, a true-to-style American IPA that uses three of the most popular American hops: Simcoe, Citra and Centennia. And, if you happen to see it, the limited release, award winning “Milk & Two Sugars” is fantastic – it was one of our favourite beers of 2015 (when it was first released).

While Brewcult does offer beers from other Victorian breweries, this isn’t the focus of the bar’s non-Brewcult offerings. It’s about offering a selection of the best beers across a range of styles, regardless of where they come from. When we visited recently, for example, there were a few Belgian beers in the fridge that we’d not heard of before. Food wise think wings, burgers and pizzas.

The main space is narrow and brick-lined, leading to a beer garden out the back for those days when the weather is nice. Upstairs is a space that is used for a variety of things like functions, comedy gigs, TV marathon and movie nights. It’s all very casual and fun, with bar manager Matt Hoffman on hand to talk all things beer and ensure everything is running smoothly.

We’ve been fans of Brewcult for a long time, and are glad to have a place where we can get the 2016 Australian Champion Gypsy Brewery’s beers fresh on tap, any time we want.
