LONDON | Brewhouse & Kitchen Angel is part of a chain of craft beer pubs established in Portsmouth a few years back. It’s conveniently located just behind Angel tube station and features a wide range of beers, both local and international. What makes this venue different than most craft beer pubs though can be gleaned by the name. It really is a brew house and when you walk in the brewing equipment is on display at the back for all to see.
The beers that are brewed on site are available on tap so freshness is not a concern. There’s a wide range of beers brewed on site and, combined with the other offerings, means there’s something for everyone. We quite like the Myddleton, a blonde ale, and the Arc Angel, an English-style IPA. For those who aren’t into beer, there’s a nice focused selection of wines on offer too, along with a few cocktails and non-alcoholic options.
The food menu is extensive, and while it’s not going to set the world alight, it’s all perfectly serviceable pub grub with an eye towards what’s trendy and reliable. Think beer-can chicken, burgers, steaks, loaded nachos, and Sunday roast.
If you’re interested in learning more about beer, there are also brewery experience days, where you can spend a day learning how to brew beer in the microbrewery with the Head Brewer, and beer masterclasses where you can try different beers under the guidance of one of the pub’s resident beer experts.
