MELBOURNE | There is a brand new rooftop bar at Feast of Merit in Richmond, and if you are like a lot of us, it also happens to be above one of your favourite coffee shops in Richmond.
But taking a step back after reading that headline, you probably think we’ve taken to speaking in absolutes and peddling hyperbole we can’t justify. And you might be right, but we have a good reason for commandeering your attention … so, before we get to the roof, let’s talk about what built it: let’s talk about YGAP.
For those who don’t know, YGAP is a charity devoted to funding entrepreneurs in developing countries who want to better the lives of those around them. YGAP do this with the belief that the people directly associated with the cause are the people best suited to solve the problems. But if you need a more local compass point, YGAP are the owners of Feast of Merit, and along with a lot of other initiatives, they give 100% of their profits to those aforementioned entrepreneurs. Which leads us back to their latest venture.
The Feast of Merit rooftop bar, a casual and beautifully simple space above the already excellent restaurant, offers patrons the chance to further feed their vices while at the same time, helping those in developing countries. Similar to the excellent work of Tomoka Trading Co, a company that gives to charity with every beer sold, Feast of Merit’s rooftop bar taps into our age old weakness of alcohol, and we at the City Lane couldn’t be more pleased about it. The drink choices are simple but dependable, and the area is well-heated in preparation for the winter months. But above all else, this bar is certainly the only one in the area that gives its profits exclusively to charity, and we think this tips the scales squarely in its favour.
The Feast of Merit rooftop bar is open now. We suggest you pay it a visit.
