MELBOURNE | Garçon Paris Steakhouse is the rebranded Entrecote, and brings a charming and bustling French bistro to the heart of Alfred Place. Chef Matt Franklin, previously at Geelong’s Le Parisien, has designed a delectable menu with a more expanded focus than its predecessor. We were recently invited to check out the revamp.

Gracon is inspired by Paris in the 1980s and the famous steakhouses of Paris. As soon you enter the chic, buzzing restaurant, you’re transported to the authentic steakhouses of Paris. We were immediately reminded of our first Parisian steakhouse experience during our European summer holiday. Gold, marble and mahogany dominate the space, with stylish 1980s French inspired artwork throughout combining to create a sophisticated atmosphere. Tables are beautifully set, with heavy wooden chairs and low mood lighting.

The evening started with fresh Coffin Bay Pacific Oysters, washed down with a Heidsieck Monopole Champagne. We sampled the Escargots de Bourgogne, which were so beautifully buttery. The Garçon steak tarte followed, which was had a beautiful texture. We also sampled the pissaladiere which is a thin base French pizza, made with onion, olives and anchovies. For the mains, we started with the salad nicoise with succulent smoked salmon, which was light and fresh.

The star of the show, however, was the steak frites. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. The Angus porterhouse and the Wagyu rump were both tender, flavoursome and melted in our mouths. Each mouthful was divine. The hot and crispy fries complimented the dish perfectly.

We finished off the evening with a beautifully creamy crème brûlée and profiteroles with chocolate sauce. By the end of it all, we were certainly très plein (very full).

For drinks, there’s an extensive wine list featuring mostly French and local wines that’s been designed to compliment the food. If you don’t want wine there’s also a few beers, cocktails and spirits.

Overall, Garçon Paris Steakhouse is a wonderful place to spend many hours with your loved ones, whilst enjoying the beautiful food and the Parisian atmosphere.
