MELBOURNE | Good Heavens is a rooftop bar located above Fancy Hanks on Bourke Street where the old Tuscan bar used to be. It has a very different feel to the space of old, with the more modern, American tinged theme from Fancy Hanks making its way upstairs. It’s more open than before and has a brighter feel about it, which is perfect for those long sunny days and warm evenings, but not quite as intimate on a cool winter’s night. Think lots of blue, white, pink and pastel. A bit Miami via Los Angeles, 1980s via the 70s.

There’s a lot to like about the drinks selection no matter what your tipple of choice is. Cocktails are a highlight with a mixture of classics and quirky takes on them. The Poco Loco for example twists the Pina Colada with coconut fat-washed Havana Club, Stolen Gold rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice. Many of the syrups for the cocktails meanwhile, are smoked downstairs to give them a unique flavour.

There are 10 beers on tap with a mixture of mainstream favourites and craftier brews, including limited releases from local breweries like La Sirene and Stomping Ground. The bottle and can selection follows the same route. There’s a focused list of decent wines too.

For food, its American style snacks and share plates. Unsurprisingly, given the quality of the food downstairs, its all tasty stuff. Think tater tots with chicken, gravy and cheese, cheeseburgers, nachos, and fried cauliflower.

The space fits 200 people, and is usually busy, while live DJs on weekends mean that the vibe stays fun and lively, but still chill, well into the night.
