MELBOURNE | Graceburn Wine Room in the heart of Healesville’s town centre is a cellar door and wine bar run by Mac Forbes, who is known for crafting some of the best wines in the Yarra Valley. It’s a small space with a long communal table in the centre, a few smaller tables to the side, and a large open wine rack. It’s a casual space with a relaxing, homely feel.
The list features not only the wines of Mac Forbes, but also some of his favourites from other wineries Australia and future afar. Many wines are available by the glass and the knowledgeable staff are always happy to recommend something for you. For those who want to try a few things, wine flights are offered which give greater insight into the Yarra Valley and the philosophies behind Mac Forbes. Staff talk through the story of each wine and it really adds something to the experience. If a more rare wine that you want, check out the museum list, which features many of the 150+ wines Mac has made since 2005.
If it’s food you’re after, it’s a selection of bar snacks like cheese and charcuterie during the day, while on Friday and Saturday nights chef Erik Koel puts on dinners which features a selection of creative share plates designed to be matched to particular wines.
