MELBOURNE | Heroes Karaoke & Rooftop Bar is the new venue from the team behind Fancy Hanks and Good Times, and sees the the floor fours above Nitro Lab on Bourke Street (you enter through a lift at the back) turned into a karaoke party spot.
The venue is decorated with a 30 foot shipping container worth of furniture, decor, posters, statues, knick knacks and more imported from Malaysia. It sets the scene for a moody, dive bar like venue that transports you to South-East Asia. Two of the floors are dedicated to karaoke, another to a dining space, and one to a 100 capacity rooftop bar.
Food is cooked on a dual grill system, and is inspired by the hawker cuisine of Singapore and Malaysia, head chef and co-owner Alicia Cheong. Cheong brings her experience working in the kitchen of the original Fancy Hanks at the Mercat Cross Hotel, and two-Michelin-starred Restaurant Andre in Singapore to the table, along with her love of hometown street food. The result is a menu full of delicious dishes like lamb rump skewers with Szechuan pepper, cumin, and lemon, curry fries with sambal mayo, and BBQ chicken wings with chilli vinegar and fresh lime.
For drinks it’s an on theme cocktail menu designed by Oscar Eastman (ex Loretta’s, Eau de Vie) featuring ingredients like pineapple, preserved mandarin, Kopi and turmeric. There’s also a small, but quality wine list, along with local craft beers and international beers.
If you’re up for some karaoke, there are a number of packages available which give you access to a private room for two hours along with a range of drinks and food to match your budget. It all combines for a great experience.
