MELBOURNE | Industry Beans is one of our favourite places in Melbourne for coffee and brunch, and has been consistently for many years. Their food is tasty, fresh and creative, and the coffee that they roast on site in Fitzroy is always outstanding. After a few years in Fitzroy, they’ve decided to expand and open a second venue in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. We were invited to check it out and of course said yes.
The first thing you notice when you walk into the CBD Industry Beans is that the space is small, quite different than the large warehouse of Fitzroy. There’s a mixture of sitting and standing room, and a casual, clean, almost Scandanavian feel about it all.
The main thing that makes it across from the Fitzroy menu is of course the coffee. A La Marzocco Modbar, takes up much of the side of the venue, and it allows you to see the entire coffee preparation experience on display. Espresso, batch brew, filter and the like are all available, as are the fantastic signature iced coffees Fitzroy Iced (Fitzroy Street cold brew, wattleseed and organic panela) & the IB Bubble Cup (think bubble tea but with smaller pearls and coffee instead of tea). For those not in the mood for coffee there are house-made juices, kombucha, coconut nectar-soaked Chai, and teas.
It’s the food where you’ll notice the biggest change from the Fitzroy cafe. The menu has been created by Head Chef James Sanders for fresh, fast in-house and takeaway with a focus on seasonal ingredients and creative flavours. Think bowls, bagels and desserts – perfect for the time poor, health conscious office crowd.
Everything can be enjoyed in the cafe or to-go, and you can purchase coffee beans to take home with you too. All takeaway packaging is sustainably sourced and fully compostable, and a 30-cent discount is offered for any drink purchased with a reusable cup.
