MELBOURNE | Jiyu Thai Hotpot 集渔泰式海鲜火锅 is Thai influenced hot pot chain has been brought to Melbourne by the team behind @gotchafreshteaand @dalongyi.aus and is offering something a bit different than the ubiquitous Sichuan style hot pot that’s been popping up all over town. I was invited to take a visit and, being a keen hot pot fan, was interested to see what this Thai take was all about.
The space has more of an upmarket feel than your usual hot pot joint. Bright colours, pastel tones, and plush furnishings all combine to give it a calming, pretty vibe.
Jiyu translates as “get all the fish together” and with a name like that it should come as no surprise that seafood is a focus here. I recommend getting the spit pot with half tom yum broth and half tom kha gai soup . The broths are fragrant and flavoursome, a perfect match for the fresh seafood and veg. For me, the squid and prawns are must orders.
Jiyu is admittedly more expensive than your typical Melbourne hot pot, the quality of both, and all of the seafood for that matter, is evident with each bite. It’s certainly worth a try.
