PERTH | Joe’s Juice Joint was opened by Clint Nolan (Sneaky Tony’s, Alabama Song Bar) in 2015 and filled a gap that had been existing in Perth’s small bar scene for a while – a small bar with a late night license. The classic (and heavy) rock dive bar with quality drinks (think Frankie’s Pizza without the pizza) is a great concept, and while it felt a bit polished in the early days, it’s well and truly grown into its own grungy space of fun over the years.

Suitably located in a basement down an alleyway, there’s no mistaking what Joe’s is all about when you enter. The lights are low and the music is loud and heavy. A small DJ booth lies at one end and pinball machines and posters advertising air guitar competitions fill the other. The walls are plastered with retro music and concert posters and the atmosphere is fun. There’s no cover charge, no pretension or attitude from the staff or punters, and a very good selection of spirits and craft beer.

For those with a bit of an appetite, there’s a small menu of fried chicken, cheeseburgers and wings, and complimentary peanuts.
