SYDNEY | Keg & Brew Surry Hills is the old KB Hotel on Foveaux Street reincarnated. Owned by the same folks behind the Dove and Olive Hotel, the focus is on craft beer and classic pub food done well. The venue retains the feel of an old school pub, which is something that Sydney beer drinkers can be thankful for – it’s a nice atmosphere to be in with an old school atmosphere that’s lacking in pretension.
Keg & Brew is one of Sydney’s best craft beer pubs and lovers of good beer are treated to a selection of mostly local craft beers (and a couple of ciders), along with interstate and international brews across the 30 taps and 3 hand pumps. There are also 30 bourbons available too, along with some decent wines and other spirits for those who want something other than beer.
The pub food impresses, delivering exactly what you expect – hearty carb heavy food that hits the spot when having a few drinks. The chicken parmigiana is big and tasty and the BBQ ribs are fantastic too. Buttermilk fried chicken hits the spot while the fish and chips features a nicely sized piece of fish battered in Young Henry’s ale. Despite what you might think, there are also options for vegetarians and vegans.
Kegs & Brew Hotel is also home to one of Sydney’s hidden secrets, that the name really should give away. That’s right, it still operates as a hotel, with a number of rooms upstairs for those looking for a well priced, well located space to lay their heads along with 10% off any food and drinks they order downstairs.
