LOC Bottle Bar, Adelaide CBD

ADELAIDE | LOC Bottle Bar opened as an online bottle shop during 2020 lockdown, before opening physically as a bar also in November that year. It’s quickly become one of Adelaide’s most highly regarded spots for a drop of wine amongst those in the know.

Why? The answer is simple. Owner Olivia Moore has created a space that nails the authentic, friendly, community focused, local’s venue feel. I only visited once when I was in town in January this year, and it didn’t take long before I felt like it was a local spot for me too.

Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and happy to discuss all things wine, and more. Speaking of wine, there’s over 150 bottles of wine here, with a focus on low interventional drops from both the new and old world. All available to drink in or to go.

There’s no wine list, and no “bar” as such. Simply grab a bottle off the shelf, or perch yourself on a seat or stool, inside or outside, and ask for a recommendation of one of the rotating eight bottles that are open at any given time. The feeling is very reminiscent of the kind of wine bars you find in Italy, Spain, and France.

If you’re after something other than wine, there’s cans of ready to drink cocktails from Empirical Spirits, NON alcohol-free wine alternatives, and craft beer on tap.

There’s no kitchen on site. The food offering being things like olives, pickles, smoky seeds, saucisson, French cheese and crackers. There’s also a rotating selection of guest chefs that pop up from time to time, firing up the barbecue and portable hot plate to whip up all sorts of delicious things.

As of this month, LOC has also started operating as a cafe during the day. From 7:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday, you can grab coffee and pastries, along with a few open faced sandwiches. For boozy tipples, you’ll have to wait until the license kicks in at 11:00am.
