MELBOURNE | Om Nom Kitchen & Dessert Bar is famous for its desserts, dessert degustations, and creative cocktails but did you know that they serve savoury food too? We’ll admit that we were ignorant to this fact until we were invited in to try the new “Om Nom High Five”. What’s it all about? Well for $25 you get Om Nom’s take on a Japanese Bento box which contains grilled chicken and tabouli, grilled prawns in plum sauce, corn succotash, yuzu mayo coleslaw, savoury brioche donut rolls plus dessert of the day and a macaroon. For vegetarians, the chicken and prawns are replaced with pumpkin and feta cous cous and patatas bravas.
Being lunch, you want your food fast and we were told that the High Five has been designed so that it only takes 10 minutes from ordering to it appearing at your table. We enjoyed all of the dishes, with the corn succotash and grilled prawns the 2 highlights. The only dish which didn’t really do much for us was the coleslaw, which needed a bit more of the yuzu mayo to make it pop. The dessert of the day was a layered salted caramel and chocolate mousse and was fantastic. $25 might not be the cheapest lunch in town, but the amount of food you get is substantial and to be honest, you could probably skip breakfast if you knew you were getting this for lunch.
A great option if you’re looking for a bit of variety in your lunch from a place which, it turns out, does more than just dessert and drinks.
