MELBOURNE | The owners didn’t mess about when deciding what to name their bar on the rooftop of Curtin House on Swanston Street. The simply titled Rooftop Bar gets straight to the point in setting some expectations about what it offers. It originally opened way back in 2003, with a 2017 helping keep things relevant with a few improvements like Art-Deco-inspired metallic awnings that can retract/expand depending on the weather and sun. Beyond that its astro turf, garden furniture, and a cinema screen which combine to create a sort of backyard BBQ vibe, albeit with 360 degree views of Melbourne’s skyline.
The drinks list is decent, with a mixture of commercial and craft beers, wines and spirits. They also do some great cocktails – try the ‘Black Forest’ which combines Espolon Reposado, Mozart Chocolate,
lemon, berry compote, apple and blackcurrant. If you’re hungry, you can grab a burger from the Burger Shack next to the cinema screen, or from Mexican restaurant Mesa Verda directly below.
Do be aware that Rooftop Cinema operates from December through March each year – the bar is still open, but closes to those who don’t have a cinema ticket after 8pm from Monday to Friday.
