SYDNEY | Staves Brewery is located down an unassuming side street next to Broadway Shopping Centre in Glebe. If you didn’t know that it was here you’d probably never stumble across it. The building it very unassuming, and from the outside doesn’t appear that changed from when it was a steel fabrication workshop. Step inside though, and hints of the site’s past are all over the places too – lots of concrete, steel and wood. Turn towards the bar and you’ll see what you came here for – 8 rotating taps of local Sydney craft beers, along with occasional brews from the rest of NSW and Australia. When it’s perfected, Staves’ own beer will also be on tap. It’s a small operation, and you  can see all of the brewing equipment that Staves uses right behind the bar.

We spoke to owner Steven Drissell, who told us that he wants Staves to be an accessible venue where everyone will be able to find a craft beer they like whether they’re new to craft beer or seasoned hop heads. Eventually there will also be a pizza kitchen upstairs, and live music in the afternoons and evenings.

Staves is a great little spot, and Drissell a friendly and knowledgeable brewer and publican. We already enjoy it in its unfinished state, and can’t wait to see it once it’s all come together. Craft beer, pizza and sun in the back beer garden anyone?
