CHICAGO | Akin to Paris’ Champs-Elysees, the “Mag Mile” is Chicago’s lavish and largest shopping district. It encompasses a 13-block stretch of North Michigan Avenue, and showcases incredible dining, shopping and entertainment options. The district offers more than 460 stores, 275 restaurants, and 60 hotels and entertainment attractions. The original concept for the Magnificent Mile was part of the 1909 Burnham Plan of Chicago, and real estate developer Arthur Rubloff gave the district its name in the 1940s.
There’s something for everyone in Michigan Avenue’s shopping district, and visitors can refer to the “What’s Hot?” blog on its website as a starting point. Or, explore the online directory of shops and restaurants. But truly, the best way to explore is to don your finest walking shoes and hit the sidewalks.
Some of Chicago’s tallest buildings, including the John Hancock building and Trump International Hotel and Tower, also lie in the district. Additional Chicago landmarks dotting the Mag Mile include the Chicago Water Tower, Tribune Building and Wrigley Building.
