Whitehart, Melbourne CBD

MELBOURNE | Located at the end of Whitehart Lane, Whitehart is a two story bar constructed from shipping containers and steel beams. It’s become one of our favourite bars in Melbourne’s CBD since opening in early 2017 thanks to its unique look and feel, fantastic drink selection, friendly service, and unpretentious vibe.

Whitehart is owned by filmmaker Stephen Johnson and his art teacher wife Sabrina Santucci, and their influence can be seen in the bar’s use of murals and digital projections, which give it a creatively lively feel. It’s a colourful venue with a great energy about it, and live DJs spinning vinyl throughout the week add to the fun.

Of course, a bar is nothing without drinks, and the selection at Whitehart is fantastic. There are 12 house cocktails as well as the classics, including espresso martinis on tap. The ‘It’s a Rhuse!’, Rum Diary spiced rum, lime and bitters topped with house rhubarb, pineapple and ginger soda, is fantastic. There’s also around 30 wines on offer, ranging all styles from white to red, pink to orange and more. Many of them are available by the glass.

For beer lovers, Whitehart is also one of the CBD’s best craft beer venues. There’s 12 taps pouring new release and core range craft beers, mostly local, along with an around 30 strong local and international can and bottle list. Expect to find beers from breweries like Feral, Stomping Ground, Amager Bryghus, To Øl, and Revision.

For food, there’s a 2.5-tonne smoker on site which can be used by chefs of the constantly rotating food vendors. Depending on when you visit it could be American BBQ, Mexican, Pizza, or anything else from some of Melbourne’s favourite food trucks.
