MELBOURNE | The humble Buffalo wing is a favourite of folks in pubs and bars across the USA, and when the owner of Wings of Glory, Steven Lo, traveled to the US a few years ago he was hooked. Not happy with the fact that he couldn’t find good Buffalo wings in Melbourne outside of a bar setting, he decided to quit his IT contracting job and open up Wings of Glory in South Melbourne. That was 2015 and since then, Wings of Glory has become a favourite for those looking for quality wings in Melbourne. Now Steven and his wife Jen have opened a second Wings of Glory in the CBD.
The offering is the same as what you can find in South Melbourne – authentic, reasonably priced, good quality Buffalo wings, along with local craft beer and cider from 2 Brothers Brewery, and a few American beers of course.
The concept is simple – decide how many original, boneless, or vegetarian wings you want, choose your flavour, sauce, and any sides you might want. Flavours include things like mild, medium, and hot, chilli mango, and lemon pepper, and sauces are the classic ranch, blue cheese, or honey mustard. For us, it’s the hot original wings with blue cheese that take us right back to the bars we visited the last time we were in the US. The double fried hand cut chips are well worth ordering as a side as well. If it’s dessert you’re after try the mini brioche hot dogs, with flavours like Choc Oreo, Honeycomb, and Strawberry.
For those looking for a challenge, try the ‘Fury Challenge’, where you’ll be given 12 super hot ghost chilli chicken wings that you have to eat in 4 minutes. Oh and after 5pm on a Wednesday, wings are only $1 each.
