Ruinbar, Northbridge

PERTH | Ruinbar is a new Northbridge bar from Miles Hull, a Perth hospitality veteran and the original General Manager of Little Creatures. To say that Miles knows a thing or two about beer understatement, and his new 300 person capacity bar is focused on ‘beer for all’.

The name comes from the fitout of the newly renovated building. It’s inspired the ruin bars you find in cities like Berlin and Budapest, purposely made to look a bit makeshift. It works, and the space is very chill. There’s the main bar, two further rooms adjacent, and a courtyard to the side.

Back to the ‘beer for all’ motto of the venue. The idea behind this is that beer as a segment has evolved so much that splitting an offering between craft and non-craft is arbitrary these days. Ruinbar is independent, doesn’t have tap contracts, and stocks something for everyone. From mainstream lager, to experimental IPAs, fruited sours, and barrel aged stouts, you’ll find something that you like.

Local and independent is the main focus of the offering here, but that’s not to say you won’t also find a few beers from the big players if there’s something that they’re doing that’s worth stocking. The same goes for the wine and spirits behind the bar.

There’s currently no kitchen on site – rotating food trucks in the courtyard provide the food. A take away pizzeria is opening soon next door in the same building, from which you’ll be able to order and enjoy in the bar.

Edit: The pizzeria, Pretty Good Pizza, is now open.
