GEELONG | When it came time for popular Torquay based brewery Blackman’s Brewery to open a bar, they decided on Geelong, just behind Beav’s Bar on Little Malop Street because of its vibrant atmosphere, and the fact that they could bring something different to the area. That something different was what owners Renn and Jess Blackman saw as a lack of good beer in Geelong, and a desire to bring better beer to the area. Opening their own bar quite simply meant that they could get their own beers on tap in town, and so Blackman’s Brewery Bar was born.

It’s a small, narrow space with space for 60 people in a former stables with clean lines, wooden tables and benches, and a white tiled wall behind the bar. On the 10 taps you’ll find Blackman’s core range, along with seasonal and one-off brews, and sometimes beers from other breweries that they’d like customers to be able to try. Tasting paddles are offered if you want to try a few things – we highly recommend the Reginald, a 6.2% ABV American IPA with notes of citrus, peach, and pine, and the Arthur, a 6.3% English-style ale with smoked German malt.

Wine drinkers aren’t forgotten either – the rotating wine list is put together each month by Union Street Bar and features some fantastic drops.

There’s no kitchen on site, however there are Hot Chicken Project menus and you can order and pay for dinner at the bar and have it delivered to you. A selection of board games and eclectic tunes on the speakers further sweetens the deal.
