CANBERRA | Honkytonks is a bar in Garema Place that’s inspired by the flavours of Central American and the Caribbean. It’s a laid back venue with lots of wood and exposed concrete, and murals giving in a modern feel without being too linked to any particular trends. Large windows open out to the street, helping open up the venue and making it a great place to people watch.
Cocktails are the specialty here, with the red wine and white wine sangria pitchers both crowd favourites. Plain, strawberry, and mango Margharitas are also popular, and there’s a decent selection of craft beer and wine for those who don’t want a cocktail. Tequila and mezcal also feature heavily on the drinks menu. Food wise it’s things like chimichangas, nachos, tacos, and fajitas. The pulled pork and tempura fish tacos are highlights, with tasty fillings inside a soft corn flour tortilla.
Keep an eye out for the Honkytonks night market too. They launched in 2015 and have been very popular, supporting local artists and craftspeople, with tasty tacos and great tunes to top things off.
