SYDNEY | Shady Pines Saloon Darlinghurst has a name that evokes all sorts of things. The Wild West, danger, piano, whisky, and gun slinging. Thankfully Shady Pines Saloon features all of the good things that its name implies without any of the bad. Located down a flight of stairs in a basement behind and unmarked door in a lane way, you won’t be able to find Shady Pines Saloon if you don’t know exactly where it is, but those willing to make the effort to find it are rewarded with one of Sydney’s best bar experiences.
The place has atmosphere, from the piano to the taxidermy, the music to the bric-a-brac, it very much looks the way you’d expect it too. Thankfully it’s more than just style over substance. The staff really know their stuff here and are happy to talk you through the menu. Bourbon, whiskey and cocktails are the main reason to visit Shady Pines Saloon but there’s also a focused range of decent craft beer and wine too if that’s what you’re after. Don’t know what you feel like? No need to worry as this is the kind of place where the bartenders can probably figure out what you want before you do.
Shady Pines Saloon is a fun as it’s always been and it’s hard to believe that it’s been around for over 10 years now. It, along with its siblings The Baxter Inn and Frankie’s Pizza By The Slice, are Sydney classics for a good reason.
