MELBOURNE | Tsujiri is one of the oldest matcha brands in the world, dating back to 1860 when it was founded in Uji, Kyoto. In that time, Tsujiri has become famous for its high quality matcha, which is still sourced from the highest quality leaves harvested in Uji. The brand aims to “continue to innovate and sustain the tradition” of matcha, and today does so not just in Japan, but internationally too.

Swanston Street is where Tsujiri opened their first (and as at this date only) Australian store, and here you can find not just pure matcha to drink, but an assortment of matcha based drinks and desserts. Think things like matcha lattes, yuzu iced tea, ice blended matcha ‘slushies’, soft serve ice-cream, cakes, and sundaes. There’s a lot to choose from, and it’s quite representative of the sort of thing you find in the Japanese stores. We recommend the chiffon cake sundae, which is very much like the matcha parfaits that you find in Japan, and the iced blended drinks for a refreshing summer option.

It’s not just matcha here either – there are other Japanese teas available along with desserts containing ingredients like yuzu, red bean, and chocolate.

Most of the food and drinks can be enjoyed in store or to go, and for those looking to make their own tea and sweets at home, genmaicha, houjicha, sencha, and umenoshiro is available to purchase.
