TOKYO | Onibus Coffeeu is a coffee roaster in Tokyo that’s known for roasting some of the best beans in town. They originated in Jiyugaoka, but today the newer and larger Nakamegro cafe and roastery is where most of the roasting takes place.

The narrow space, formerly a home and most recently a porridge restaurant, has been designed by Kazufumi Suzuki and is inspired by traditional Japanese design. The result is a space that feels both modern and traditional. The side wall is decorated with hand made tiles from the Japanese pottery town of Tokoname, while a mural on the back wall by local artist Chalk Boy, details the bean to cup coffee process.

The menu is very simple. Espresso, Americano, or latte, brewed using a La Marzocco Linea PB, or Hario V60 pourover. Iced and hot options are available. Given the quality of the beans that are roasted here and attention to detail at all steps of the process, it comes as no surprise that the coffee at Onibus is fantastic.
